What is Notre Maison?
Notre Maison (Our House) is a home for severely handicapped children. Founded by Ruth Zimmerman, a Lutheran nurse from Wisconsin, it provides a home and loving care for children who have been abandoned and left to die because of their handicaps. In recent years, Bob and Carole Stufflebeam have done much to improve the love and care the children receive.
At Notre Maison, the children are loved and cared for. Some receive medical and surgical assistance that enables them to lead normal or near-normal lives. More than 250 children have been cared for over the years. Many of them have either been adopted or transferred to specialized group homes, while some remain there permanently. Notre Maison, recognizing that all life is precious in God's eyes, gives all these helpless children new hope and new life. The Lazarus Project supplements income received from others in the U.S., including the Stufflebeam's Provider organization and a supervising agency known as "New Directions International."
