Grace Mission and Orphanage
Grace Missionary School and Orphanage was founded by "Sister" Marie Major. She is affiliated with The Lutheran Federation of Haiti, one of two recognized Lutheran entities in Haiti. After years in the United States, Marie felt the call of God to return to her homeland of Haiti to serve her people. Using her own funds, she established a combination church/school/orphanage in Bon Repos, a suburb of Port-au-Prince.
She is "mother" to 27 homeless children and educates a total of 450 children, who attend classes for free at the school. She has recently seen the completion of a new church facility, one of her life-long dreams. Her church has standing room only every Sunday. The Lazarus Project assumed support previously undertaken by Advent Lutheran Church in Boca Raton, FL. Grace Lutheran Church in Naples, FL, has adopted Marie's ministry as a special project, building classrooms, toilets, showers, and guest rooms, as well as providing medical and nutritional care and buying more land.
