VOH Clinic

The dream of opening a health clinic at Village of Hope became one step closer with the employment at the beginning of October 2008, of Debbie Berquist,  as the Clinic Director.  Debbie a Registered Nurse, originally from Hamilton, Ontario has nearly 20 years of International experience, 17 of which have been spent at Hopital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) in the Artibonite Valley of Haiti. Debbie has been married for the last 8 years to Wilner Jules, a Haitian gentleman she met while working at HAS.

Debbie has begun to lay the groundwork for the clinic by visiting other health providers in the area; making contact with various government officials; obtaining the guidelines for obtaining authorization to start a medical clinic in Haiti and preparing various documents to maintain inventory reports and statistical information.

Her duties also include those of a school nurse, providing basic care and follow up to the students and the staff.  Clinic days are held 2-3 mornings a week and Debbie never lacks for students or staff members requiring her attention.  She is following a number of staff members for problems of hypertension and several women who have accepted Family Planning.

We are delighted to have Debbie on Board.  She looks forward to the challenges and rewards of this work and to providing future updates as progress is made toward the establishment of the Village of Hope Clinic.
