Feb 27 - March 6, 2010
Joyful Spirit, IL

The team headed by Julie Hupp from Joyful Spirit Lutheran Church was here from Feb 27 to March 6.

The first major task for the group was helping to prepare and then distribute the relief packages given to the staff on payday.  This consisted of a number of items including food provisions, clothing and most importantly a tarp and a piece of plastic sheeting for each one.

The rest of the week the team split into two groups..some working at Little Children of Jesus and the other half doing repairs between Hope House and the School.
Little Children of Jesus team participated in feeding the children breakfast and lunch, clean up, arts and crafts, sport activities, singsongs etc.  Julie provided physiotherapy working with Mona the Haitian staff member who also does physio. The men painted the dining room after repairs were made to the walls by the FFTP repairmen.  They also cleaned the wash area walls and put down concrete rubble from our walls to stop the rainfall from splashing the walls with muddy dirt.  Toilets and door knobs were also fixed.

The Hope House team worked along side Christophe and his team on repairing the back wall by the work shop area.  They also did a number of odd jobs fixing toilets, caulking cracks, repairing furniture and a number of other "honey do" chores.  At the school they fixed a number of cracks which occurred as a result of the earthquake.  The walls are now ready for painting which the next team will do.

Their were 4 newcomers on the team and they joined me for a tour at Food for the Poor and spent sometime helping with the food distribution for some of the 1200 families that are served each day. A visit by the whole team was made to Grace Mission and the metal workers in Croix des Bouquets.
