Advent, Boca Raton

A team of seven adults and three teenagers from Advent Lutheran Church in Boca Raton, Florida spent a week leading Vacation Bible School at the Village of Hope and touring the other Lazarus Project ministries. With funds and materials from their own church’s recent VBS program, they involved ninety students in singing, worship, crafts, games and bible studies.  Jorel Carte and several student translators were great helps to the team. One of the most amazing experiences was to see how quickly the American teens found ways to communicate and connect with the other students, proving that friendship is a powerful bond.

Since this was the first trip for all but one, the emphasis was on orientation.  Nevertheless, the team proved to be great workers, willing to tackle anything.  They were able to polyurethane one cabinet for school and build and poly another.  They also replaced the screen door panel at Hope House and installed a new light fixture in the office.

We were able to visit all our Lazarus Project ministries, plus FFP.  The group was touched by what they experienced and fired up to go home and tell the story to others.

Besides bringing the usual allotment of two suitcases per person of "things" for the ministry, they also brought us some resounding news: the gift of $100,000 from a member of Advent towards the construction of our clinic!  Thanks be to God!  I am sure this gift, together with the others already received/pledged, means that all we need to do now is finalize the design and find someone to do the construction.
