Village of Hope Lazarus Project

June 9 - 14, 2011
Ascension, Fon du Lac, WI
St Andrew's, Columbia, SC
Bethany, Alexandrai, VA

Work Assignment:   The team was kept busy with a variety of chores: completing painting of the rafters in the Chapel, repairing tiles in dining room floor, yard clean up and repairing tiles in the dining room floor yard clean up and testing of the new incinerator landscaping behind chapel and grade 2 classrooms – preparing garden beds for the Enrichment team who is to do some planting

Other Activities: The team enjoyed the usual visits to the metal workers, Little Children of Jesus orphanage, the Earthquake Memorial site.  They were also able to fit in a trip for souvenir shopping and a small tour of downtown.

Special Notes:  The team demonstrated their open and welcoming hearts as they came together from  three different churches and four different States  (Wisconsin, Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia).  When we welcomed them at Hope House you would never have known that they had all just met up at the Ft Lauderdale airport…maybe spending the night together on the floor of the airport may have had something to do with that bonding!

Perry presented us with autographed posters of his Guiness Book of World Records certificate which he accomplished in last September’s “ 24 Hours for Haiti” fund raising event which benefitted VOH.  He is planning another 24 Hrs for Haiti event for this fall which will also benefit VOH.  We wish Perry well with this endeavor and thank he and his team of “helpers” for their efforts.

We enjoyed the guitar playing of Samuel and Pastor Jeff as well as Pastor’s beautiful singing voice.  Listening to them practice their song for Sunday chapel actually gave me goose bumps.
