June 13 - 20, 2009
Pittman Park UMC, GA Medical Team

Another medical team from Pittman Park UMC in Statesboro, GA spent a productive week with us June 13-20.  This is the second time a medical team from that church has been with us this school year and the third one in all.  God has been very good to us at the Village in that even before the clinic is constructed, God's healing presence is making itself known.

The three days of clinic at VOH proved once again how badly a clinic is needed in that area.  Even with four practitioners and a dentist, there were far more needs in the community than could be met in the limited time that was available.  According to one ladies family, they had traveled four hours on a motorcycle in order to bring her to see the doctor.  She was so weak when they got her there, they had to carry her in on a blanket, reminiscent of one of the Lord's healing stories.  Like that story, after being treated, she was able to walk out on her own.

Besides the 10 people from Georgia on the team, pre-med student Brett Hoffecker came to assist, as did Pastor Frank Wagner and dentist Chris Ricker from Holy Spirit Lutheran, Juno Beach, FL.  Dr. Ricker addressed so many dental needs that there is no doubt those services need to be part of our clinic.  The team members from GA who had been here before, Donna Bradley, Nancy Waters, Dr. Randy and Sandy Smith, Lin and Lois Roberts, Maria Smith, Eldonna Hilde and Dr. Rose Cesar were joined by nursing student Sarah Price.

Besides the three days of clinic at VOH, one day was spent at Marie's Grace School and Orphanage.  Again, the needs were many and the team worked with the compassion and diligence of Christ in reaching out with God's healing presence.

Besides the medical clinics, all were able to visit Little Children of Jesus and those who had not been before were able to make a trip to Food for the Poor.  The team also enjoyed the closing ceremony at VOH, at which time they gave everyone a tube of toothpaste, compliments of Dr. Ricker.
