July 18 - 25, 2009
VBS Advent, Holy Spirit, FL

A combined team from Advent, Boca Raton and Holy Spirit, Juno Beach presented a fantastic VBS for the 3rd and 4th grade students at VOH the week of July 19.  The four members from Holy Spirit blended so well with the eight from Advent that one would have thought they had been together for years--and they were so well organized that one would have thought they had practiced for years.  What a great experience they gave our students!

The team was so well organized that they met the students at the gate at 7:45 each morning and kept the students together through the entire experience which, besides an opening and closing, consisted of four group activities--crafts, recreation, drama and photography.  Each activity was built around the theme which was the story of Moses leading the people of Israel out of bondage into the freedom of their destiny as God's people--a theme that has special meaning for the children of Haiti.  Starting so early meant the team was climbing into the back of the big truck at 6:30 each morning after having spent an hour or so in preparation.  And the amazing thing was there was never heard a disparaging word!

Besides giving our children five days of a Spirit-filled VBS, the group was able to visit all our other ministries, as well as Food for the Poor, even arriving there in time to help serve in their feeding program.  The only member of the team who had been here before was Pastor Andy Hagen, the team leader who arrived eight days before the team in order to spend part of his Sabbatical studying the Haitian culture.
