April 30 - May 5, 2009
St. John, Springfield, VA

Ten members from St. John, Alexandria are on their way home after a productive 5 nights in Haiti.  Led by Greer Putnam, the only one who had been here before, the team went home tired but hopefully blessed by their visit.

The main work project, besides sorting and organizing some of the goods, especially shoes, received in recent containers, was distributing the shoes to the K-I through 2nd graders at Village of Hope.  Since Friday, the day after their arrival, was a holiday, Monday was the only day the students were in school, and therefore the only day available for the shoe distribution.  But did the group ever work hard that day!   The distribution went smoothly, with each child being measured and then fitted with a pair of shoes and socks.  Just about all the shoes had been worn, but there were easily enough gently worn ones that we could probably have given each child two pair.  [We are not going to be so blessed the next time we distribute, since there are not nearly enough size 9 and up to even begin distributing to the older children.  We will probably be okay through about 5th or maybe 6th grade, but beyond that it does not look like we will be able to do much.]

Pastor Braun Campbell also provided a valuable service in tuning up and getting ready for distribution the lap top computers that came in the Wheatland Salem UMC container.

The team also made two moving visits to LCJ, one accompanied by Jorel Carte and his accordion, and a visit to Grace Orphanage where they did a craft project with Marie's girls.  We were also able to tour FFP on the way to the airport this morning.
