Jan 10-16, 2009 Another power team from Joyful Spirit spent a productive week with us. As usual, Julie, this time accompanied by Gina every day and Pastor Josh most days, spent most of the time doing much-needed therapy with the LCJ children.
In the meantime, most of the 8 men on the team busied themselves with some much-needed tasks at Hope House. They started by knocking down the unused and unneeded chimney at the end of the tool depot to make room for the new generator beside the larger one. After that was done, we borrowed a pallet jack from FFP and moved the big generator about a foot to make even more room for the smaller one to be moved between the big one and the tool depot, freeing up the space beside the vehicle ramp where the small one had been temporary located. Moving the generators also meant both had to be rewired into the transfer switch.
When everyone's muscle was not needed knocking down blocks or moving generators, work continued on building some much needed desks for the first grade students at VOH. Other projects around Hope House included numerous repair jobs, including the screen doors leading to the dining area and several wiring projects.
Early Thursday morning the team loaded the first 7 of the new desks on the truck to take them to VOH for the final coat of polyurethane. By the time the first desk hit the ground, and much before the team could put their hand on a paint brush, the first graders had surrounded the desk and were carting it off to their classroom. The team did not had the heart to make them wait to use them, so the final coat of poly got applied to the first 7 (and the next load as well) at the end of the school day. While at VOH, the team also accomplished other much needed tasks: replacing the stolen wire leading to the float switch in the water tank, repairing several of the toilets, replacing several supply lines to the sinks and repairing a bookcase and bench.
Besides the much work that was accomplished, those who had not been to FFP toured that facility and the whole team went to both Marie's and LCJ.
