Houses for Haiti Pins
A donation of $725.00 is being mailed to Village of Hope, Inc., for the Earthquake Relief Fund.
A BIG Check
This money comes from Dale Mabry Elementary School students in Tampa raising funds by making Houses for Haiti pins.  Ms. Nanette Dailey is the art teacher who did a wonderful job instructing the children in making of their products, then selling them to the community.  Ms. Dailey asked that this money be used to buy supplies for the children at Village of Hope.

Ms. Dailey had both Matthew and Alexis Hafer (both students at Dale Mabry), as well as Andy Hafer, on the school’s Morning Show presenting the check.  At that time the students were thanked for doing a great job.  Also, during the show the elementary children were told about Village of Hope and the students who attend there.

A big thank you to everyone who played a part in the Earthquake Relief Fund.

Uno's Fundraiser raised over $700 for Stop Hunger Now. Thanks to everyone from the area who dined at Kingstowne Uno’s to raise funds for Stop Hunger Now - Food for Haiti .  In February over 700 Stop Hunger Now volunteers, including 15 volunteers from Uno’s Kingstowne, working at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, packed 144,000 dehydrated meals for Haiti following their devastating earthquake. The Uno’s fundraisers in February and April raised over $700 toward the goal of more than $35,000 and helped pay for the cost of meal ingredients, shipping to Haiti and local transportation. The container was shipped on Feb 23, arrived at the port in Haiti on March 2, and arrived at the Food for the Poor warehouse on March 25. On March 26, Debbie Berquist, Lazarus Project Haiti Director, picked up the meals which she is distributing to orphans, students, teachers, staff members and others in need.

Everyone’s Chocolate Covered Pretzel Store
submitted by Debi Deloose
The 14 children in Room 5 at Lord of Life Preschool in Fairfax, Virginia learned about math and giving back to the community during the Spring of 2009.   The children who are all 5 years old brought in change to add to the digital “piggy bank.”  This was a lesson in money, recognizing numerals, and counting.

At the end of April the class opened Everyone’s Chocolate Covered Pretzel Store.  After much discussion the children decided to make 150 bags of pretzels with two in each bag.  At class meetings, the group decided to ask for donations rather than for a set price.  They also determined what supplies would be needed for the project.  The pretzel assembly line was manned by the students with help from the parents and teachers Kareen Lawson and Lorna Miller.  Student made advertising posters were put up and the store was run by students on the days of the sale.

The money earned from both of these integrated learning experiences is being donated to the Village of Hope School in Haiti. Pastor Ron Qualley visited the classroom and shared information on the VoH school.  He was also first in line for the pretzel store.  The pretzel project earned $375.54.  The “piggy bank” held  $145.17.  The grand total was 520.17.

BIRTHDAY GIFTS
Jason collected cans of Vienne Sausages for kids in Haiti instead of more toys for himself!Jason, an 8 year old from Fairfax, VA, asked that everyone bring Vienna Sausages for the kids in Haiti to his 8th birthday party rather than a gift for himself. For his 7th birthday he asked for socks for the kids in Haiti! Jason's generosity has been a witness to his friends and has inspired others to do the same. Jason's Mom, Kathy, did the same for her birthday and collected over 20 lbs of Vienna Sausages!

The children thank Jason for the Vienna Sausages!
